Kiteboarding in Nicaragua is very popular along the coast of Lake Nicaragua. It is a fresh water lake that has steady winds from the Caribean side flowing across it to the pacific. The wind can be quite strong, especially on Ometepe island, as the wind is forced over and around the 2 active volcanos.
We will need to fly into the Managua airport and then travel south towards Granada. We can kite from 20-45 min from this location but there are better spots on the South Western side of the lake ,or again, on the island.
Our last trip included kiting in 4 differents spots along Lake Nicaragua and Ometepe. Kites used were 6M-12M for riders weighing 65kgs - 130kgs.
Highlights of the trip were seeing the city architecture and cathedrals, local cuisine and happy hours in Granada, visiting the city open markets, seeing banana and coffee plantations on the island and enjoying the hospitlality of the Nicaraguans.
